Karma in today's world

No matter how rational and practical the world becomes by the day, there were, are and will be reservations against exploring the shades of grey. Karma, i.e, what goes around comes around, is a principle which most of us agree to, but, only a few of us actually follow. Well, I figure that there are some more basic truths of life than Karma, which actually fit rather better in the mean and practical scheme of things; we are all so habitual of living in. For instance, let’s start off with the downtrodden, who don’t have houses or shelter, those who live in the slums, the people who don’t have enough to suffice their physiological requirements of hunger, thirst etc. which are considered to be the most basic in the hierarchy of needs. These people have no amenities, no social life and not enough bucks to raise their children properly, to save the upcoming generations, the misery. Leave alone the people who’ve lived there, supposedly, to an extent, due to karma, but, what sin have those young kids committed who’re born and raised in the slums, or in other extremely poor financial conditions? Why does Karma make them suffer, for things they’ve not done? Ironical, as it may seem, but, it’s quite true that the higher strata of the socio economic hierarchy, who enjoy all the pleasures of life in their lavish bungalows, are much more corrupt than the working middle class and the lower strata, yet karma finds that justified.

The b class elites exploit their employees, manipulate deals unfairly, toy with the stock investors and even hire people to kill other people, therefore being an accomplice to both monetary crimes and physical assaults, including murders. Yet, they have access to all the worldly pleasures one could ask for and a standard of living which others only can dream, and envy of. Apart from the chosen few (chosen for what is the main issue here, :p) who believe in Karma, as of today, the two most basic truths of life are inheritance and intellect. The people who’re living in slums for generations have inherited that, mostly from their forefathers and it’s not necessarily due to their own Karma that they suffer throughout their lives. That’s why I call it a ‘Hell Bound Slum’. The other side of the coin represents thousands of those people who’ve had everything they ever wanted all their lives, yet have not done a single deed, they could be proud of. These are the brats who’ve inherited their lavish lifestyle from their forefathers, thrive on it shamelessly, fulfilling all their desires and wants, without ever using an iota of their wealth to help others. But, Karma allows them to live and prosper, while all the shackles placed in the paths of the less fortunate. The second biggest governing factor is the person’s intellect. There are a few, among the helpless others who rot in the slums, who have that intellect to escape the misery the others face. They are bound to change their destiny, one day or the other and have the capacity to break free from the hell bound slum. But even those who flee the hell don’t look back at it. The more, the power and wealth grips a man, he more he seems to exploit the shades of grey. For those who argue by citing life after death, even if there is a life after death, what use is heaven to a person, whose entire life has been a living hell?
